“Spiral” is based on the manga “Uzumaki” and tells the story of a small town whose inhabitants suddenly become obsessed with everything that has to do with spirals. Soon, they themselves begin to spin into horrible funnels; the same happens to buildings, and objects, and even clouds. The main characters try to escape from the cursed place before the nightmarish spirals reach them too.
The manga on which the anime is based is considered an iconic example of Japanese horror. Fans have been waiting for the anime adaptation for a long time: the series was in development for about five years and its release was constantly postponed.
The series is produced by Production I.G. and directed by Hiroshi Nagahama. In addition, unlike most anime, “Spiral” only has four episodes. The first episode was released on September 28, and subsequent episodes will be released at weekly intervals.
