2024 proved to be a tough year for Netflix series fans, as the streaming giant decided to cancel or shut down several popular projects. Despite fierce competition and rising audience expectations, even some really popular projects didn’t get a chance to continue.
This is always bad news for fans who have already fallen in love with these shows and are rooting for a second season. Here are 8 shows Netflix canceled this year, including shows that were originally renewed.
Sometimes, as in the case of Wednesday, the strategy of creating a spin-off based on a popular franchise works flawlessly. But this did not help Ratched , even though all the ingredients for success were there: production design, big names from the creators of American Horror Story and impeccable acting from Sarah Paulson. Many believe that Ryan Murphy’s departure was the main reason for the cancellation, but no one has officially revealed these reasons.
But of course the biggest shock of 2024 was the cancellation of ‘Detectives from the Other World’. The Sandman universe fascinated many, and the mere fact of an additional project indicated that we were in for a new, strong franchise. But no series is ever completely safe on Netflix, unless of course it’s Stranger Things.
“Detectives from the Other World” was canceled due to low ratings, according to company representatives — despite a strong start, the series failed to attract enough viewers to have a chance at continuation.
