10 Dramas Based on True Events

Love Landing stands out the most on our list, if only because it is one of the most popular dramas of recent years. Few would expect it to be inspired by a true story, because if so, how come the story didn’t make headlines?

It turns out that it did thunder, just not everywhere; and the story itself served more as an inspiration. “Love Landing” screenwriter Park Chi-eun said he came across the story of Korean actress Jeong Yang and a group of friends who accidentally crossed the border into North Korea while swimming off the coast of Incheon.

The screenwriter was surprised at how easy it actually was to cross this border, and was inspired by the thought of a country so close—and so forbidden. “I thought a story about someone being forced to land there would be cool,” the screenwriter told a Korean TV station in an interview. It turns out he wasn’t wrong!
