In the 70s, director Terrence Malick released two legendary films: Days of the Harvest and Wasteland. Everyone expected the director to continue making successful films, but Malick simply disappeared and left Hollywood for twenty long years.

So when Malick suddenly announced his plan to make a war film, The Thin Red Line, in the mid-1990s, all the major Hollywood stars rushed to beg the director to give them a role in the upcoming war drama.

“The Thin Red Line” was released in theaters in 1998 and critics immediately called the cast the most star-studded film. over the past 50 years.

But critics raved about the film, making Malick’s third film an excellent one 80% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, this did not help the war drama become as popular as Saving Private Ryan. At Kinopoisk, The Thin Red Line performed quite well 7.4 points, but only 31 thousand users rated it, while Steven Spielberg’s photo attracted the same number of people 312 thousand Russians.
