The psychological thriller starring Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Psycho. The series follows the lives of Norma Bates and her son Norman, and their move to a small town after the deaths of her husband and father.
Norma buys an old motel in hopes of a new life, but soon discovers that the town hides dark secrets. As Norma and Norman settle into their new place, Norman’s mental abnormalities become noticeable and worsen under the pressure of family and external problems.
The relationship between mother and son becomes increasingly complex and tense, leading to a series of tragic and frightening events. Olivia Cooke’s heroine appears in the first episodes of the project and becomes Norman’s friend, despite the fact that she calls her “best friend” … an oxygen tank.
Cook’s character Emma is a beautiful and smart girl who suffers from cystic fibrosis, a chronic lung disease, which is why she constantly carries a balloon with her. Despite her illness, she has a cheerful attitude and does not allow her illness to dictate her life. Together with Bates Jr. the girl investigates criminal mysteries surrounding their motel.
