Wayne’s World star Dana Carvey has announced that his son Dex Carvey has died at the age of 32 from an accidental drug overdose.

The 68-year-old SNL alum and his wife Paula released a heartbreaking statement on Instagram on Thursday, saying: “We experienced a terrible tragedy last night. Our beloved son Dex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.’

“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. “He was extremely talented in so many things — music, art, filmmaking, comedy — and pursued them all with passion.”

The couple continued: Dex “he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend Kaylee most of all. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.’

Dana and Paula, who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary earlier this year, are also parents to son Thomas (30).

The statement concluded: “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and in our prayers.”

Dex died at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday night when his girlfriend called 911 around 10 p.m., police sources told TMZ on Thursday.

Dex “was locked in a bathroom,” police told the paper, and “was unresponsive when discovered.”

Police sources told TMZ that paramedics tried to revive Dex, who was then “pronounced dead at the scene.”

An autopsy was performed on Dex, but authorities have not yet determined the cause of death as they await the results of toxicology tests.

Dexter had a professional background in the entertainment industry as he was a comedian who opened for his father during the filming of his Netflix special Straight White Male in 2016.

Dex has also appeared in a number of projects, including the 2016 short film Carpool Pandering; Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser from 2016; the 2014 miniseries Beyond the Comics; and, according to iMDb, the 2013 miniseries The Funster.

Dana is best known for his work on the NBC series “Saturday Night Live”, having been a cast member from 1986 to 1993.

In his final year on the series, he received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program and has hosted the show several times in the years since his departure.

Some of the most notable recurring characters he played during his time on the series were The Church Lady, Hans and Garth Algar. He has also received praise for his incredible impressions, the most famous of which was that of the late President George HW Bush.

Dana played the role of Garth in the hit SNL spin-off “Wayne’s World” in 1992 with Mike Myers and in the 1993 sequel.

He also appeared in films such as Opportunity Knocks (1990), Clean Slate (1994) and Trapped in Paradise (1994).

This year he worked on the Netflix animated series Mulligan, in which he played the role of Senator Cartwright LaMarr.
