Country star Morgan Wallen returns for the second year in a row to perform at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards. Wallen will perform the fan favorite “98 Braves” at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, during his sold-out tour. Wallen received 16 awards from 17 finalists, including Top Artist, Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist. He joins previously announced BBMA artists David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, Karol G, NewJeans and Peso Pluma.
“’98 Braves” peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, Wallen’s week One after the other Album debuted. His most recent album spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, while the single “Last Night” topped the all-genre Hot 100 for 16 weeks.
Wallen was banned from the 2021 Billboard Music Awards and other awards shows after a scandal in which he made racist comments in a video. After hosting an apology tour and speaking to Black organizations about his mistake, he was rehired by his record label and returned last year to perform at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
Wallen is tied with SZA with 17 entries each, followed by The Weeknd (16); Drake and Zach Bryan, 14; Luke Combs (10); 21 Savage, Metro Boomin and Miley Cyrus (nine each); Beyoncé and Rema (seven each); Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma (six each); and Ariana Grande, Guetta, Eslabon Armado, Karol G, NewJeans and Selena Gomez (five each).
Taylor Swift, the most decorated BBMA artist of all time with 29 wins, is a finalist in 20 categories, the most of any artist this year.
