The first shots are shown in Cannes.

Kirill Serebrennikov, director of The Petrovs in the Flu, is making a film about the late writer Eduard Limonov.

The band was called the Ballad of Eddie. The Russian writer, the author of the novel It’s Me, Eddie, is played by the British actor, star of the It Will Hurt series, Ben Whishaw. Victoria Miroshnichenko will play the role of Limonov’s first wife.

According to the director, the film should “show the madness of the writer’s life”.

Serebrennikov began filming in Russia, but the project is conceived as an English-language project, so part of the work will have to be completed in Europe. The director called his film a poetic biography, based on the French writer Emmanuel Carrer’s book about Limonov.

“Wishaw is just starting to become Limonov in front of the camera,” Serebrennikov told Variety.
