SPOILER ALERT: This report contains details about Season 1 of home of the dragon.
home of the dragon Showrunner Ryan Condal and star Paddy Considine appeared on Contenders TV to announce the first season of game of thrones Forerunner However, Condal also hinted at what lies ahead in the upcoming second season.
“I’m looking forward to picking up where we left off,” Condal said. “Now we can get into the more traditional rhythms of storytelling and game of thrones. We always talked about this special story, George [R.R. Martin] also has a Shakespearean or Greek tragedy. This series is very much about a house that is tearing itself apart on the inside. Now that all these pieces are on the board, I’m very excited to tell the next chapter to see what happens when Viserys is no longer around and looking over things.
Viserys (Considine) dying in Episode 8 means that Considine will not return in Season 2. While Considine admitted he was jealous of his co-stars returning to work, Considine said he was glad Condal didn’t try to kill Visery’s role on the show.
Viserys was the king of the House of Targaryan. After his death, his wife Alicent (Olivia Cooke) tries to place their son Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) on the throne to which Viserys has called his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).
“The story is being told,” Considine said. “I’m glad they didn’t drag Viserys out. The fact that it was cut into eight episodes only made his arc stronger.
This arc began in the series premiere. Viserys’ first wife Aemma (Sian Brooke) died in childbirth. Viserys insisted that she underwent a complicated birth to produce a male heir, which also did not survive.
“She was killed in the process to save this child,” Considine said. “He carries the weight of it throughout his history. When he falls apart, he rots, his eye is missing, he is not the one asking for healing. Everyone is, but he seems to have accepted it. The burden of the crown was too heavy for a man of such a heart.’
The actions of Viserys affect multiple generations, including all generations up to and including the time of game of thrones.
“The trick was really to show this generation gap that started with Viserys’ generation,” Condal said. “He and Otto Hightower, his hand, passed on to Rhaenyra and Alicent as they grew and grew and had children of their own. This bitter rivalry for power is passed on to their children. It’s a three generation story and we had to get through it in one season so we could move on to Dragon Dance.”
