Olympic hero Matthew Mitcham shocks TV presenters by revealing he came to OnlyFans ‘for the money’ after needing cash over Christmas

Olympic jumper Matthew Mitcham recently shocked the Australian sporting community by joining OnlyFans.

And now the 34-year-old has revealed why he decided to take the plunge on the dull subscription website.

During an appearance on The Morning Show on Wednesday, Matthew didn’t mince words when he shared his motivation for OnlyFans: “The money, duh!”

The gold medalist said OnlyFans’ money got him through a quiet working period over Christmas.

“It’s just another way for people to communicate with me,” he told stunned hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

“I don’t do anything too vulgar,” he added. “I just love showing off my beautiful body!”

Now based in London, the athlete also works as a diversity and inclusion coach, teaching companies about pronouns and other progressive topics.

“A lot of people are very afraid of making mistakes with gender pronouns and things like that,” he explained.

“All I’m saying is just try, you’ll make mistakes and that’s okay as long as you try.”

Matthew, who won gold at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, opened an account on adult website OnlyFans last month.

“I don’t do anything too vulgar,” he said. “I just love showing off my beautiful body!”

His husband Luke Rutherford is already a top performer on the platform.

While Rutherford features hardcore massage pornography featuring various men on the site, Mitcham said his own content will be less explicit.

“Please don’t expect anything too risky,” the diver warned his subscribers at the time.

Queensland native Mitcham made history by becoming the first openly gay male Olympic champion in 2008.

He then set an Olympic record for a single jump and was also the first Australian to win an Olympic gold medal in diving since Dick Eve at the 1924 Summer Olympics.

He also won six silver medals at the Commonwealth Games and one gold medal.

In January, Mitcham celebrated seven years of sobriety after addictions to crystal meth and alcohol nearly ended his career.

He announced the milestone on Instagram, saying he was “the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been.”

“Today I have been clean and sober for SEVEN YEARS,” Mitcham wrote.

“It’s been seven years since I put anything stronger than a Panadol in my body and I’m without a doubt the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been.”

He continued, “Not everyone needs frugality, but I did it because I was dependent on external things to solve internal problems. And while I still have internal problems, I now have internal solutions.

“I hope everyone had (or still does) a wonderful Christmas season and if you wake up one day and think ‘enough is enough’ like I did seven years ago, you’ll know there’s a lot of help out there if you ask for it.’

Mitcham has previously opened up about his struggles with alcohol and meth while struggling with a match after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

After his Beijing triumph, he developed an addiction to the drug ice cream when he realized he was not world no. 1 despite his Olympic success.

Incredibly, the diver felt like a failure and soon found himself training and competing while juggling a crippling drug addiction.

“Knowing that I would be tested for drugs at every game, I would detox [from drugs] for the weeks before I joined and I was going through these horrible withdrawal symptoms,” he told the BBC.

“They were so bad that I swore with every cell in my body not to use them again, but I could never keep the promise.

“It was getting dark. My self-esteem was in tatters, suicide was sometimes the easiest way to deal with it, but eventually I went into rehab.”

Mitchell’s husband Luke, a porn star, is also sober after drug problems.

Last week, he wrote: “Today, Luke is eight years clean and sober, which is a huge achievement as he was literally a hot mess. Now he’s just hot.

“Luke, this message is to let you know that wherever you go, I’ll always be right behind you because it’s the best view in the world.”
