In the pilot episode, the heroine was played by another star.
The “Game of Thrones” series has acquired a cult following, and it’s hard to imagine that some other actors could play the main characters. However, Emilia Clarke was not the first actress to play Daenerys Targaryen.
In the 2009 pilot, she was played by Tamzin Merchant. Viewers may know her from Katherine Howard in The Tudors, Anne Hale in Salem, and Imogen Spurnrose in Carnival Row.
As it turned out, the actress herself does not regret at all that she did not participate in the legendary project.
“Taking part in the filming of the pilot was a serious lesson for me. A lesson in listening to your instincts and following them. I wanted to refuse to participate in these shootings, and at the moment of agreeing to the contract, I really refused, but very persuasive people managed to convince me. Emilia Clarke made her character iconic, which shows that she was in the mood for the role and that’s why she succeeded so well. I couldn’t achieve this,” the artist said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
