Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin receive the Art Directors Guild’s Cinematic Imagery Award

Award-winning filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and his longtime producing partner and collaborator, Oscar-winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin, receive this year’s Art Directors Guild Cinematic Imagery Award. Their 30-year collaboration includes work on films such as The Great Gatsby, Australia, Romeo + Juliet, Ballroom only, Moulin Rouge! and last year elvis.

The award, which “recognizes those whose work in the film and television industry has vastly improved the visual aspects of the viewing experience,” will be presented on the 27th.e Annual ADG Awards on February 18 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.

“We are incredibly pleased to honor Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin with the 2023 ADG Cinematic Imagery Award,” said ADG President Nelson Coates. “Since their first collaboration, the extraordinarily creative and impactful combination of these groundbreaking filmmakers has consistently amazed audiences, captured the imagination and pushed cinematic boundaries while remaining excitingly contemporary.”

Luhrmann received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture Moulin Rouge!, for which Martin won Oscars for Best Art Direction Set Decoration and Best Costume Design. She also won two Oscars for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design for The Great Gatsbyand was nominated for an Oscar for her work on Australia and Romeo + Juliet.
