The Oscar winner, 76, played the lead role of Louise in the 1991 action adventure with Geena Davis, 66, as Thelma.
The film is about two best friends who go on a fishing trip only to become the target of a manhunt after they kill a suspected rapist.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay and introduced film audiences to an unknown actor named Brad Pitt.
Gina did not provide a statement, but appeared to approve of the new project by posting a montage of photos from the film on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday.
