The source said Todd, 53, and Julie, 49, have been spending as much time with their loved ones as possible, though they’re still not sure what happens next. “Todd and Julie spent yesterday with their family and it was an extremely emotional time. There were a lot of tears and no one knew what to say because there was nothing they could say that would have changed anything,” the source said. “Todd and Julie knew they had no alternative, and that was it.” The source echoed a similar sentiment Todd shared in his last Instagram message before starting his prayer, where he wrote that he would “fight the good fight.”
A week before they were due to report to their respective facilities, the two requested bail as they sought to appeal their tax fraud conviction and have it overturned. They were denied bail, but the source said they would proceed with the appeal. “Todd insists he will fight the good fight and is putting all his eggs in one basket with this call. They have not accepted responsibility for this and they will not. They truly believe they have been disapproved of by the system,” they said.
The reality star couple received their ruling in November. Julie is currently serving at Lexington Federal Medical Center in Kentucky while her husband is at Camp Pensacola, Florida Federal Prison. “Julie’s last-minute move to Kentucky was a small moment of joy for them, because most of the kids live in Tennessee, which is just one state away. Todd’s location in Pensacola, FL is another story and it won’t be that easy to visit,” the source said. “This is very difficult for all of them right now.”
Todd and Julie were found guilty on all counts of tax fraud in June. Todd was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, tax fraud and bank fraud. Julie was found guilty of tax fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
