A child psychologist told whether it is worth giving children expensive gadgets.
Actor Chris Hemsworth bought a smartphone for his eight-year-old son. The boy was clearly not happy with such a gift.
Professor of the Department of Developmental Psychology at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education Victoria Yurkevich said in an exclusive commentary to PopCornNews that at this age it is already possible to give children a phone, but there is one caveat. It is important to monitor how much time the child spends with the gadget.
The psychologist advises in a polite and businesslike manner to negotiate with the child about the time allowed on the phone. Children can be given the freedom to choose, for example they can watch cartoons for an hour or split the view into several times.
“If you take safety precautions and follow how he uses, you can safely give from the age of three. I know of a case where a six-year-old child wanted to do nothing, just watch cartoons on a smartphone. It’s not about age, it’s about how parents can manage their pastime on the device,” says Viktoria Yurkevich.
