The African American Film Critics Association on Monday announced the winners of its 14th annual AAFCA Awards, which recognize the best films. The queen of women, To, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Glass Onion: A Mystery of Blades each won a few prizes.
Among the awards The queen of women was awarded Best Film of the Year, with the film’s Gina Prince-Bythewood winning Best Director. Danielle Deadwyler (To) and Jeremy Pope (The inspection) was awarded as best actress and actor. Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Brian Tyree Henry (elevated road) won the supporting awards.
Awards for special achievements include Towho received the Impact Award, and Antoine Fuqua and Will Smith, who received the Beacon Award liberation.
“AAFCA is deeply honored to recognize some of the most compelling films and performances of the year,” said AAFCA President and Co-Founder Gil Robertson. “These thought-provoking stories of strength, determination and courage uplift and entertain us. It is an honor to recognize the incredible, visionary work both in front of and behind the camera by this year’s AAFCA award winners.”
A ceremony honoring the winners will be held on March 1 at Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.
The winners are chosen by the more than 100 members of the AAFCA. The organization, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023, will announce even more special events and programs in the coming months.
