A new rural accommodation complex named Casapila has opened in Morcín, Asturias, offering guests mountain views of Montsacro just a few minutes from Oviedo.

The property, which was inaugurated at the end of 2024, sits surrounded by green mountain slopes and natural vegetation in northern Spain. It provides a retreat designed for travelers seeking outdoor experiences, wellness, and a cooler climate during the summer months.

Asturias, situated along the Bay of Biscay in northwestern Spain, is part of the region traditionally referred to as Green Spain due to its maritime climate and green countryside. The municipality of Morcín lies in the central mountain area, providing direct access to rural valleys and peak landscapes.

Family project behind Casapila

The business was created and is operated by Marta Álvarez, Israel Fernández, and their two daughters, María and Ana. The family had long shared an ambition to launch a joint project, which eventually took shape as a rural lodging business.

The family explained that Casapila was a very special venture for them because they created it together as a family. They noted that the initiative started with great enthusiasm and gradually grew through hard work, care, and dedication, reflecting their own perspective on how to experience and enjoy Asturias.

Guests waking up at the complex are greeted by early morning light illuminating vegetation-covered hillsides and surrounding mountain tops. While the property remains attractive throughout the year, the owners noted that it holds particular appeal during summer when travelers seek cooler temperatures and outdoor activities away from urban crowds.

Located just a short distance from the regional capital of Oviedo, the house allows visitors to experience quiet rural surroundings without traveling long distances into isolated regions. The views from the property are described as bringing a sense of calmness that is difficult to find in typical tourist destinations.

The owners emphasized that participating in the relationship between Asturias and its visitors is a core element of their work. They stated that it is a privilege for them that Casapila can play a role in the special connection that the region forms with people who travel there.

Apartment layouts and modern amenities

Opened in late 2024, the Casapila complex combines traditional rural tourism with modern amenities across four independent apartments. The individual units are named El Pigazu, La Caleyra, La Talambera, and Solamalena.

Each apartment was designed with a contemporary, functional, and welcoming aesthetic. The layout prioritizes the natural surrounding environment, using large windows that allow natural sunlight to fill the living areas while keeping the outdoor landscape visible from inside.

The property includes all essential facilities needed for short or extended stays by couples, families, or groups of friends. Key features of the guest experience include unhurried breakfasts while watching the horizon, long evening conversations on private terraces, and mountain sunsets.

Hospitality at the retreat is maintained through direct personal interaction between the family and their guests. Rather than simply handing over keys at check-in, the owners share detailed local knowledge, suggesting walking routes, dining options, and lesser known spots that do not appear in standard travel guidebooks.

María and Ana explained that they pay careful attention to small details so that guests feel comfortable, truly disconnect from daily routines, and enjoy quiet moments. They added that their primary goal is to help visitors experience Asturias, explore the region more deeply, and come to love the area as much as the family does.

Outdoor activities and hidden waterfall

One of the main features of staying at Casapila is the ability to access natural surroundings directly from the doorstep without using a vehicle. The immediate landscape consists of native forests, hiking trails, open pastures, and steep hills suitable for walking, nature exploration, and cycling.

During the summer season, water activities form a central part of the outdoor experience around Morcín. Located just a short walk from the accommodation is a small natural pool fed by a waterfall on the Morcín River, concealed within dense forest vegetation.

Because the waterfall and pool are not easily visible from main paths, the owners personally guide guests toward the spot. This hidden water feature serves as a secluded location where visitors can cool off during warmer summer days.

In addition to immediate hiking paths, the location acts as a base for exploring broader geographic landmarks across Asturias. The nearby Sierra del Aramo mountain range contains the famous Angliru climb, a mountain pass renowned internationally as one of the steepest ascents in professional road bicycle racing, frequently featured in the Vuelta a España stage race.

Visitors can also take day trips to the Asturian coast along the Cantabrian Sea. This proximity allows travelers to combine mountain excursions with coastal visits on the same trip, a geographic feature characteristic of the narrow region between the Cantabrian Mountains and the ocean.

Local culinary traditions and access

The region surrounding Morcín is recognized for traditional Asturian gastronomy and regional food products. Morcín is particularly known as the traditional production area for Afuega'l Pitu, one of the oldest cheeses in Spain, made from cow's milk and characterized by its unpasteurized curd and distinctive conical shape.

Local dining options feature traditional northern Spanish dishes, including fabada asturiana, a rich bean stew prepared with white beans, chorizo, morcilla sausage, and pork shoulder. Other regional specialties offered in nearby eateries include slow-cooked meat stews, braised goat meat, and homemade desserts.

For guests seeking local dining without driving, the Angleiru restaurant operates just a short walking distance from the apartments, serving traditional Asturian dishes and local products.

The regional capital of Oviedo, situated less than 15 minutes away by car, offers additional cultural sites, historic architecture, and broader dining choices. Oviedo is home to historic medieval structures, including the Cathedral of San Salvador, and serves as the administrative and commercial heart of Asturias.

Casapila is located at Carretera Vegas de San Esteban de Morcín, Km. 1, 33162 Morcín, Asturias. Information and reservations are handled by telephone at 722637492 or through the official website at www.casapila.es.
