"Cinco Tipos de Medos" ("Five Kinds of Fear"), starring Bella Campos and Xamã, was named Best Film at the 30th Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival, held in Miami. The production, directed by Bruno Bini, was the top winner of the edition, taking home four Crystal Lens trophies.
In addition to the top prize, the film won Best Director, Best Screenplay and the Popular Jury award. The ceremony took place on Saturday, September 12, at the Silverspot Cinema in Miami.
Bini, who attended the festival in person for the first time, said the screening in Miami had been incredible. He said he had previously had films shown at Inffinito but had never been able to attend, and that being there to follow the audience's reaction to their story was special, he said in a statement sent to the press.
He added that the festival had been an important showcase for Brazilian cinema abroad for three decades, and that it was good to have the chance to celebrate that milestone alongside the film's win.
Gramado Win and International Screenings
"Cinco Tipos de Medos" was also the biggest winner at the 2025 Gramado Film Festival, where it received four Kikitos trophies, including Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Editing for Bini, as well as Best Supporting Actor for Xamã.
Since then, the film has screened at the São Paulo International Film Festival and in cities including Havana, Manchester, Paris, Barcelona, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Cast and Producers
The cast also includes Rejane Faria, Jonathan Haaggensen, Zécarlos Machado, Luana Tanaka, Luiz Bertazzo, Rodrigo Fernandes, Beto Fauth, Amauri Tangará and Eloá Pimenta.
Ashé Ventures, the production company founded by American actress Viola Davis, and Hollywood Ventures Group are associate producers on the project.
The Story Behind the Film
In the film, Campos plays Marlene, a nurse torn between love and danger, while Xamã plays Sapinho, a local drug dealer who, despite his involvement in crime, was seen by residents as a kind of protector of the community.
The story is based on a real episode that took place in the Jardim Novo Colorado neighborhood, where residents mobilized to pay Sapinho's bail, fearing that his arrest would leave the area vulnerable to violence from other factions.
