Winter lip care tips that will change your routine

With the arrival of frosts, both mood and skin condition worsen. Due to cold weather, the epidermis dries out, so ensuring adequate hydration is especially important now. Not only the facial skin but also the lips need care. And sometimes one balm is not enough. Together with Daria Shnurko, beautician in the Sensetica care field, we figure out how to properly care for your lips in winter.

What happens to the skin of your lips in winter?

Lips are more sensitive to temperature changes than the body and face. This occurs due to the small number of sebaceous glands in the skin of the lips (they secrete sebum and create a protective film). In winter, there are more factors that negatively affect it. Here are the main ones:

  • Low temperature and wind. Frost evaporates the moisture on the lip skin, causing peeling and cracks to appear.
  • Heating. In winter, heating comes on in buildings and hot air causes dehydration.
  • Ultraviolet rays. In winter, as in summer, ultraviolet rays affect the skin of the body, face and lips.

A daily beauty routine is very important to maintain healthy lips. Be careful when choosing care, taking into account all the factors that aggressively affect the skin of your lips in winter.

  • Hygienic lipsticks and balms. We recommend that you choose hygienic lipsticks and balms that contain beeswax (they create a thin protective film on the lips), vegetable oils (soften) and vitamins. Vitamins A, E, B moisturize the skin, nourish it and make it velvety. Use the balm every 2-3 hours, especially if you are outside.
  • Lip gel. The gel relieves inflammation and repairs damage. We recommend that you choose a product that contains peptides. Promotes cell regeneration and repairs barrier function. Apply the gel evenly to your lips twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.
  • Night care. Night mask balms refresh and protect lips before bed. Choose a product that contains rice wax (retains moisture), jojoba (softens), vitamins and sunflower oil (moisturizes the epidermis). Apply a thin layer of care in the evening. You can also use patches.
  • Balm with SPF. We should not forget about UV protection in winter. The sun irritates the skin of the lips, so SPF balm will create an invisible film and also moisturize.

What habits damage the skin of your lips?
