“Anfisa Anatolyevna died last night in intensive care before regaining consciousness. Today we found out what happened, tomorrow we will receive all the documents – we did not contact either the intensive care unit or the pathologist. He was hospitalized on the 15th,” said Leonid Reztsov.

Anfisa Anatolyevna participated in cross-country skiing, switched to biathlon, then returned to skiing and took first place everywhere. The legend of Soviet and Russian sports won Olympic gold in the cross-country relay in 1988. In 1992 she won the Olympics in the biathlon sprint and two years later won gold in the biathlon relay. “I wouldn’t have changed if it wasn’t for my biathlete husband. If I were a basketball player, maybe I would go to basketball. If I were a figure skater, I’d easily slip into a pair; I can’t ski any worse than I do. When I was a skier, I was shooting while going to training camps with my husband. I didn’t like it, but he called: come, let’s shoot some. So I said: shooting is not a woman’s job, carrying a rifle with her,” she said in an interview with Sports.ru in 2020. Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev also commented on the news of Anfisa Anatolyevna’s death: “Reztsova is the only one like that.” There will be no one like him.” And that is the honest truth.

Note that daughters Kristina Reztsova and Daria Virolainen also connect their lives with biathlon.
