Mesh manicure has been around for a long time, but is currently at the peak of its popularity. That’s why we decided to find out what kind of technique it is, what features it has and who will like it. And Varvara Kotova, product and training director of the “Fingers” network of manicure and pedicure salons, helped us with this.
Saw manicure – what is it?
A nail file manicure is a type of manicure that does not use sharp cutting tools and does not pre-wet the skin, that is, is treated dry. It is also often referred to as Australian, in honor of Christina Fitzgerald, the founder and creator of the material brand of the same name for manicure.
One of the reasons for the popularity of this type of manicure is that the technique is not traumatic. It doesn’t need scissors or pliers. The only nail tool used are files with different abrasives, i.e. different degrees of hardness,” adds Varvara.
Who is eligible?

Our specialist identifies various categories of people who will suit an Australian manicure rather than a classic manicure.
– Those who have naturally smooth cuticles that do not require working with pliers or scissors, as well as those who do not have problems with pterygium (the bottom layer of the cuticle).
– Those with close capillaries.
Who is not eligible?
But there are also those for whom the nail file manicure would not be a good alternative.
– Those with creeping (also called creeping) cuticles that stick to the nail bed.
– Those who have a natural tendency to develop burrs or hyperkeratosis (a condition in which the stratum corneum of the nails becomes thickened) on the nails.
Is it possible to master the nail file manicure on your own?

According to Varvara, it is impossible to master nail file manicure on your own. “There are special techniques that need to be learned in a vocational training centre. Such a manicure is practically safe when performed by a qualified master, but a person without professional skills can easily injure his own nail plate, ”says. That’s why you need expert training to learn how to handle and use the file correctly.
How to do a nail file manicure?
The first and most important rule is that the nails must be dry. And here is the turn to do a manicure at home:
– Choose the shape of the nails.
– Move the cuticle with a special tool – an orange stick.
– Apply a file to the side rollers.
– Clean and shape nails with pterygium. In this case, the movements should not be pressurized in order not to cut the nail, but should be light.
– File the cuticle with a nail file and then sand it with a polish.
Wash your hands, towel dry and apply a cuticle moisturizer.
What files are needed for manicure?
If you decide to choose the files yourself, look at their abrasiveness. The files you use for cuticles and pterygium should be at least 180-240 grit (the smaller the grit, the rougher the file). The most suitable file formats are crescent or boomerang. You will also need a polish to give the nails a mirror shine and a polish that will allow you to polish the side ridges and cuticles. By the way, there are special files for Australian manicure that are sold with replaceable files. True, their cost is higher than others.
