The Brazilian action and science fiction film Beast Race will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, August 7, 2026. Known natively as Corrida dos Bichos and in Spanish as Carrera de Bestias, the movie requires a platform subscription to watch.
The film had its world premiere on March 17, 2026, at the South by Southwest Film and Television Festival. It was screened inside the Narrative Spotlight section of the festival.
Produced by O2 Filmes, the feature has a running time of 124 minutes, or two hours and four minutes. Vinicio Espinosa, Fernando Meirelles, and Andrea Barata Ribeiro serve as producers on the project.
Plot and Competition Rules
The movie is set in a dystopian Rio de Janeiro that lies in ruins after the sea has dried up, altering the city geography. Powerful and wealthy magnates remotely control a deadly betting race across the city, benefiting the most from the violence.
Each participant in the competition represents an animal and risks their life for a cash prize that can transform their life. However, every runner must put up another person as collateral, recovering them only if they achieve victory.
According to the official Amazon Prime Video synopsis, an idealistic young man named Mano has always fought against the race and everything it represents. His life collapses when his only sister is put up as guarantee by one of the competitors.
Mano defies his own principles and enters the competition as a runner to rescue his sister. He builds unexpected alliances to raise his chances of winning and to destroy the game, launching a crusade to alter his destiny and save the residents of Rio de Janeiro.
Cast and Production Details
Fernando Meirelles, Rodrigo Pesavento, and Ernesto Solis directed the production. Solis also wrote the screenplay alongside Rodrigo Lages.
Filming took place from May 15, 2024, to September 2024. The crew shot scenes on sets and real locations across Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Matheus Abreu stars as Mano, alongside Rodrigo Santoro as Abu, Isis Valverde as Nadine, Thainá Duarte as Dalva, Igor Fernandez as Galo, and Azzy as Tigresa. The cast also features Anitta as Divina and Camilla de Lucas as Kelly.
