Antonio de la Torre to voice Disney+ 2026 World Cup film

Spanish actor Antonio de la Torre will narrate a new Disney+ documentary chronicling the Spain national football team's victory at the 2026 World Cup.

The streaming platform announced that the ESPN Films original documentary, titled Cuando el mundo se detiene, transforms Spain's championship run into a feature length cinematic chronicle.

Disney+ has scheduled the documentary to premiere exclusively on November 27. Viewers in Spain will receive exclusive worldwide access on that date before the film rolls out across other international markets.

The film revisits the tournament held during the previous summer, in which Spain secured its second world title. The production focuses on events both on and off the pitch, moving beyond standard match highlights to examine the tournament through an intimate lens.

Antonio de la Torre narration

Producers selected Antonio de la Torre to provide the Spanish voiceover in order to ground the story for domestic viewers. His narration aims to convey warmth, gravity, and restrained emotion, avoiding an artificial tone to reflect the cultural and social impact of the tournament victory.

De la Torre is one of Spain's most prominent screen actors. He holds the record for the highest number of nominations in the history of the Goya Awards, Spain's principal national film honors, with more than 14 nominations across his career.

He has won two Goya Awards, earning best supporting actor in 2006 for the comedy drama AzulOscuroCasiNegro and best actor in 2018 for his performance in the political thriller El reino. Early in his career, de la Torre studied journalism and worked as a sports reporter for regional television in Andalusia before transitioning full time into acting.

Inside access and street celebrations

The documentary builds its narrative from privileged access behind the scenes of the competition. The film crew tracked events away from standard match broadcasts, focusing on personal stories among the players and staff as well as the emotional atmosphere inside the squad.

The production also documents public reactions across the country, showing crowds celebrating in the streets during weeks that brought normal routines across Spain to a standstill.

According to the production team, the project seeks to present a complete mosaic of the competition rather than a conventional tournament summary. The cameras followed participants into private team areas to capture the pressures and internal dynamics of the campaign.

Directors and executive producers

Argentine filmmaker Juan Pablo Buscarini directed the film. The production was overseen by executive producers Pablo Bossi and Fernando Sulichin, two experienced industry figures who have managed major film projects in Latin America, Europe, and the United States.

Buscarini won a Goya Award in 2007 for the family film El raton Perez and has directed international feature films including The Inventor of Games. Bossi previously led the Argentine production company Patagonik Film Group, producing acclaimed titles such as Nine Queens and the Academy Award-nominated drama Son of the Bride.

Sulichin has developed and produced numerous prominent documentary and narrative projects, working regularly with directors including Oliver Stone, Spike Lee, and Sean Penn. His documentary credits with Stone include political and historical portraits such as South of the Border and The Putin Interviews.

The project was developed under the ESPN Films banner. The production house is known for long form sports storytelling, including the 30 for 30 documentary franchise and the acclaimed series The Last Dance.

Spain and the second star

The documentary centres on Spain's triumph in the 2026 tournament, which delivered the men's national team their second World Cup trophy. In international football, countries place a gold star above their national team badge for each World Cup tournament they win.

Spain earned their first star in 2010 at the World Cup in South Africa. Midfielder Andres Iniesta scored in extra time during the final in Johannesburg to defeat the Netherlands and claim the country's first world championship.

The 2026 victory came sixteen years after that breakthrough title, adding a second star to the national team jersey. The achievement sparked nationwide celebrations and cemented the current squad's place in Spanish sporting history.

Disney+ premiere schedule

Cuando el mundo se detiene will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in Spain on November 27. The debut gives Spanish subscribers the first opportunity to watch the documentary before it opens to international audiences.

Disney+ has not yet announced international release dates for markets outside Spain. The streaming platform plans to roll out the documentary across its global network following the Spanish launch.
