The dramedy "Anxious People," adapted from Swedish author Fredrik Backman's novel, will open in Russian theaters on January 7, 2027. Angelina Jolie, known for "Girl, Interrupted," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and "Changeling," stars in the lead role.

The film centers on a failed bank robbery that turns into an accidental hostage-taking on Christmas Eve. During an open house viewing, a group of people with their own fears and quirks end up trapped together.

As police try to free them, the characters get to know each other and realize they have far more in common than it first seemed.

Actress describes on-set tension

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, actress Aimee Lou Wood, known for "The White Lotus" and "Sex Education," said several crew members began shouting instructions at her at once during filming. She asked that only one person direct her, and at that moment saw Jolie give her an approving thumbs up. Wood said she had not previously spoken up that way in order to avoid conflict.

Director and cast

Mark Forster directed the film, working again with screenwriter David Magee after their previous collaboration on the Backman adaptation "A Man Called Otto." The cast also includes Jason Segel, Carol Kane and Lennie James. A Netflix series based on the same novel was released in 2021 and received positive reviews from critics.
