Marking the double celebration, Gerekou reflected on past family holidays spent on the Greek island of Corfu. She wrote that Maria was born on the day of the Virgin Mary, bringing blessings into their lives, and recalled how the family cherished their carefree summers together by the sea.

Gerekou is a prominent Greek actress and public figure who has served as the president of the Greek National Tourism Organisation. Her late husband, Voskopoulos, was one of Greece's most celebrated laiko singers and performers, known as the prince of Greek song until his death in July 2021. Their home island of Corfu held special significance for the family throughout their years together.

In her social media post, Gerekou also revealed a tender nickname that Voskopoulos had given to their daughter. She noted that her father used to call Maria a child of the Virgin Mary, believing that the Holy Mother had protected her from the very moment she was born.
