A 23-year-old woman adopted by a Swedish couple has reunited with her biological parents in China, the South China Morning Post reported.
Lisa was born in 2003 in Huaiyuan County. Her mother gave her to a midwife shortly after birth because she and her husband could not provide the baby a decent life, according to the report. Four days later, the midwife left the newborn near a stadium in a nearby town.
Local authorities found the girl with an inguinal hernia and placed her in an orphanage, where she was given the name Gao Jianquan, which translates from Chinese as "in good health." When she turned one, a Swedish couple adopted her and named her Lisa. Her adoptive parents told her about her past once she was older and supported her wish to find her biological parents.
DNA test confirms the match
In March 2026, Lisa contacted the Chinese nonprofit organization Baby Come Home. Two months later, a DNA test confirmed she was related to the family she had found.
She flew to Anhui with her adoptive parents, where relatives met her holding a sign reading "The most beautiful road in the world is the road home." Her biological mother gave her a traditional jade necklace and a red Chinese dress.

Social media users called the story touching, noting that Lisa now has two loving homes, one in China and one in Sweden.
The South China Morning Post previously reported that another woman adopted as a child in China discovered she had lived for years just a hundred meters from her birth parents' home. She had been separated from her family at age two.
