Hair expert Adolfo Remartínez has advised that autumn hair loss care should focus on promoting hair regrowth rather than simply preventing natural shedding.
Remartínez, who is the founder of Spanish hair care brand Nuggela & Sulé, explained that finding an increased amount of hair in brushes or shower drains during the seasonal shift is a normal part of the human hair cycle.
Seasonal hair shedding commonly occurs during the autumn months when hair follicles naturally transition into a resting phase before shedding. While the increased loss can become noticeably more pronounced over several weeks, experts emphasize that the primary objective must be supporting the follicles so that lost strands return strong and healthy.
Remartínez said the true objective was not to prevent hair from falling out, but to ensure that every single one of those hairs grew back. He added that reinforcing the follicle as early as possible significantly increases the likelihood of recovering a strong, dense, and healthy mane.

When seasonal hair loss indicates a deeper issue
According to Remartínez, autumn hair loss is a completely normal physiological process. However, a genuine problem arises when the hair that is lost fails to recover with its original strength or when the overall quantity of falling hair exceeds normal biological levels.
He noted that individuals should pay attention not only to the volume of hair being lost, but also to how their hair evolves over time. A key sign of potential hair thinning is whether new hair begins growing in significantly finer or more weakened than before.
Seasonal changes are not the sole trigger for increased shedding. Remartínez pointed out that emotional stress and hormonal fluctuations can also cause temporary spikes in hair loss at specific moments throughout the year.
Because these internal factors can impact the growth cycle, he advised checking whether an increase in shedding is merely a brief seasonal event or a condition that persists over a longer period.

The role of scalp health in hair recovery
While consumers frequently use shampoos, hair masks, conditioners, and finishing products for various cosmetic needs, the scalp itself is often neglected in daily beauty routines. The condition of the scalp directly influences the health of hair follicles and the overall quality of the hair fiber.
Remartínez reminded that the scalp is a direct extension of facial skin. He explained that just as people maintain a regular skincare routine to keep their face healthy, they ought to apply the same care and attention to their scalp.
Maintaining a healthy scalp does not require an overly complex regimen. Alongside balanced nutrition and active stress management, Remartínez recommended incorporating daily scalp massages and targeted topical treatments to stimulate local circulation and follicle nourishment.

Targeted treatments and active ingredients
To assist during peak periods of seasonal loss, specific formulations can be introduced to support root anchoring and follicle vitality. One product designed for this period is Nuggela & Sulé's Sérum Anti-Caída Forte, priced at €34.90.
The formulation works across three primary areas: strengthening the anchoring of hair to the root, stimulating follicle activity, and reducing scalp inflammation that can compromise healthy hair development.

The serum combines three main active components to support fragile hair strands. It features Capixyl, a biomimetic complex combining red clover extract and Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, which helps anchor hair follicles and reduce structural damage.
The product also contains red onion extract, which is naturally rich in quercetin and sulfur compounds known to support keratin synthesis and scalp microcirculation. Additionally, marine glycogen provides an essential source of energy directly to the hair follicle, strengthening fragile and weakened hair fibers.

Application methods and long-term care
Incorporating such treatments into an evening routine is straightforward. The serum is designed for direct application to the scalp on either damp or dry hair before bedtime.
Users are instructed to apply the product directly to the targeted areas of the scalp and massage it gently with their fingertips for two to three minutes. The leave-in treatment acts overnight while sleeping and does not require rinsing in the morning.
Remartínez concluded that managing autumn hair shedding is not about trying to halt a natural biological cycle entirely. Instead, the focus should remain on observing hair evolution over the weeks and adapting care to its changing needs, ensuring that lost hair is successfully replaced by healthy new growth.
