Peking Duk musician Adam Hyde has been called out by his former partner after he claimed actor Leonardo DiCaprio hit on her in Los Angeles.
The anonymous ex-girlfriend, who lived with the 35-year-old Australian electronic music star in the United States for about five years, accused him of stealing her personal anecdote and passing it off as his own on national radio.
She also warned Hyde's current partner, 31-year-old media personality Abbie Chatfield, that the musician thrives on the spectacle and media attention of high-profile relationships.
Radio Story Sparks Ex-Girlfriend Response
The controversy began several weeks ago when Hyde, who performs solo under the stage name Keli Holiday, appeared on the Hit Network radio show Carrie & Tommy, hosted by Carrie Bickmore and 41-year-old comedian Tommy Little.
During the broadcast, Hyde recounted an encounter at a Los Angeles party hosted for NBA star Ben Simmons, which he claimed was also attended by Canadian rapper Drake.
Hyde told the radio hosts that Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio approached him to ask for a cigarette before attempting to flirt with his then-girlfriend.
Describing the moment on air, Hyde said he spotted Drake first before being approached by the Hollywood actor.
"I remember at the party, there was this big, bald, shiny head - and it was Drake! He had his shaved head, I was like, 'Oh, s***!' So, I said hi to Drake and then I got a tap on the shoulder and it was Leonardo DiCaprio and his mate asking for a smoke," Hyde said.
Hyde said that coming face-to-face with DiCaprio left him stunned, telling the hosts: "I was like, 'Oh my God!' That's as famous as it gets!"
Comedian Tommy Little joked during the segment about the A-list actor scrounging cigarettes, saying: "I can't believe Leo is bumming cigs."
Hyde then claimed that DiCaprio's request was a pretext to talk to his girlfriend, telling the show: "I was like, 'What's going on with that?' But then I realised he was hitting on my girlfriend at the time. That was his move."
Hyde did not name his former partner during the interview or state when the party occurred.
Ex-Girlfriend Details What Really Happened
Speaking to the Mail, Hyde's former partner rejected his version of events, stating: "This is my story. I think he's a loser for stealing it."
She explained that the gathering was a joint event hosted by a company she had just joined during her first week of employment.
While both she and Hyde attended the party for basketball star Ben Simmons, she said they separated upon arrival, as was typical for them at social gatherings.
Standing inside the venue while smoking a cigarette, she said she was tapped on the shoulder and initially panicked, fearing she would be ejected for violating house smoking rules.
Instead, she turned around to find DiCaprio asking if he could have a cigarette.
She recalled being shell-shocked by the encounter and asking the actor if he was enjoying himself, to which he replied: "Yeah, it's fun."
According to her account, DiCaprio then pulled his hood up and walked back into the crowd without further conversation.
She stated that Hyde observed the brief interaction from across the room, walked over to ask what happened, and immediately assumed DiCaprio was hitting on her.
Rapper Drake Claim Debunked by Former Partner
The ex-girlfriend also disputed Hyde's assertion that he interacted with Drake at the same event.
She confirmed that the global music star was present in the room, but insisted that Hyde never spoke to him.
She stated: "Drake came. Drake was there. But he was in the room. It was one of those things where he was just there. He didn't talk to Drake at all."
Reflecting on their five-year relationship in California, she described Hyde as someone who frequently exaggerated stories to remain the center of attention.
She noted that during their time living together in Los Angeles, Hyde was often tagging along with her social outings rather than hosting them himself.
"I lived the life in LA and a lot of times it was Adam tagging along with my cool s***, not the other way around," she said. "Adam is a classic exaggerator. Adam likes to be the main person in the story, even if it's not his story. He loves to be the centre of attention."
Warning Issued to Abbie Chatfield
Addressing Hyde's current relationship with television and podcast personality Abbie Chatfield, which the couple made public in 2024, the former partner offered a candid assessment.
While expressing support for Chatfield, she warned that Hyde is drawn to the public spectacle surrounding famous partners.
She stated: "When he got together with Abbie - nothing against her, I think she's great - but there is something about the spectacle she holds that I feel like is very appealing to Adam."
She suggested that Hyde secretly enjoys the media attention and controversy that comes with dating a high-profile figure: "He's secretly loving it and being able to speak about things like this."
She described the public attention as an addictive experience for the musician, comparing it to a dopamine hit that feeds his love for performance.
"I think internally he hates it... but I do feel like it's an addicting thing when you're getting attention... I think it's a dopamine hit," she said. "He loves the performance of it... I will never be able to love him enough the way that a crowd makes him feel, or the way an article written about him makes him feel. I could never love him that much."
Despite these observations, she noted that 31-year-old Chatfield and 35-year-old Hyde appear well matched, calling them a great relationship and perfect for each other.
Advice on Maintaining Independence in Relationships
The former partner cautioned Chatfield to protect her own identity while dating the Peking Duk member.
Sharing her personal experience from her five-year relationship, she described how she previously diminished her own personality to accommodate Hyde's magnetic presence.
She explained that she initially possessed a bright spark when they met, but found herself shrinking down during their years together, requiring significant effort afterward to reclaim her self-confidence.
"When I met Adam, I had this spark about me. I had this shine," she said. "And I just made myself smaller... I shrunk myself down to be with him. I really had to work years trying to find my light again."
Encouraging Chatfield, she added: "[Abbie] seems like a confident, strong woman. I don't think she has any issues [with that]. But I do feel like, look after yourself. Don't make things work just because you want to make it work."
Acknowledging Hyde's charismatic personality, she noted that people naturally feel compelled to fit into his orbit: "Adam has a great personality. I do have to say that. Everybody loves him. There is something about him that is magnetic. I do have to give him that. You do feel like you need to fit into that. And he makes you feel that way, too."
Her direct advice to Chatfield was to preserve her individuality: "I would just say, keep your own personality, girl. You're way cooler than him. This is what he does... He wants to be a cool girl."
Hyde originally achieved widespread fame alongside Reuben Styles as part of the electronic music group Peking Duk, known for hits including Dancing2.
In 2021, Hyde created his solo project Keli Holiday to release more intimate songs focused on romance and personal heartbreak before going public with Chatfield in 2024.
