Plot and story background
The narrative of 86: Eighty-Six centers on the Republic of San Magnolia, a nation ostensibly engaged in a military conflict against the Empire of Giad. San Magnolia claims to wage a peaceful war without human casualties by deploying autonomous combat drones known as Juggernauts.
However, the government promotes an idyllic peace to citizens living inside its 85 protected districts while concealing a grim reality beyond its walls. In the clandestine Sector 86, members of disenfranchised ethnic minorities are stripped of their human rights and forced into combat to pilot the supposedly unmanned drones on the front lines.
The story follows Shinei Nouzen, the feared and experienced leader of the Spearhead squadron operating on the front line of battle. The tactical control of the unit is managed remotely from afar by Vladilena Milizé, a young military officer belonging to the elite of San Magnolia.
