A 33-year-old traveler was arrested at Miami International Airport after telling airport staff during boarding that he had a bomb in his bag. Yoel Guevara-Crespo was preparing to board an American Airlines flight bound for Cuba on August 31 when the incident occurred at the gate.
According to news portal NBC 6 South Florida, an airport employee began asking Guevara-Crespo standard security questions about whether his baggage contained lithium batteries or lighters. When asked the routine safety questions, the passenger replied that there was a bomb in his bag.
Following the statement, police officers were summoned immediately to the boarding gate and detained Guevara-Crespo. A law enforcement service dog was brought to the scene to conduct a search of his luggage, but officers discovered nothing suspicious inside the bag.
After the inspection, police officers took Guevara-Crespo in for questioning. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, a detention facility located in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
