Netflix launched last September Dahmer – The Beast: The Jeffrey Dahmer StoryCo-created by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) and run by Evan Peters, a series that looks at the heinous crimes of one of the worst serial killers to rage in the United States between 1978 and 1991. He looks at the flaws in the police that have allowed the man nicknamed the Milwaukee Cannibal to continue his deadly insanity for more than a decade without worry. The series about Dahmer also reminds of the fate of another psychopath who terrorized America: John Wayne Gacy was renamed “Killer Clown” by the press. Indeed, Gacy regularly dressed as a clown during his volunteer activities with sick children in hospitals. He was also the one who inspired Stephen King to create the nightmarish clown Pennywise character in the novel “It”.
This serial killer’s bloody journey is described in the 3-part mini-documentary series “John Wayne Gacy: Self-Portrait of a Killer” available on Netflix. Under the guise of an exemplary family man, Gacy raped, tortured and killed 33 young people in the 1970s. Like Dahmer, many of his victims were found buried under his home in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Captured in 1978, Gacy will be sentenced to 12 death sentences and executed by injection in 1994. The miniseries, punctuated by archival footage, showcases the chilling exchange of voices between Gacy and his lawyers, and also calls out to Jeffrey Rignall. Ask the question as Jeffrey Dahmer, the sole survivor of the murderer: How can he be killed for so long without being alarmed by the police?
