“Through this stunning career that has made France proud, you have contributed to our country’s influence through your multiple commitments. It is my great honor and pleasure to raise you to the honor of the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor”. With these words, President Emmanuel Macron honored the actor and singer Line Renaud, now 94 years old.
Indispensable to the French cultural landscape, Line Renaud is also known for its strong commitments. He is indeed a co-founder of the Sidaction association and has been fighting for the right to die with dignity for years.
“You have written a new chapter in your legend with Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis. (…) You have been a compass for the French.” Popular artist Line Renaud thus joins the list of personalities honored with this highest republican distinction in recent years, given to actors Michèle Morgan and Michel Bouquet, painter Pierre Soulages, writer Jean d’Ormesson and philosopher Edgar Morin.
“Your destiny began as a French novel and continued as a Hollywood tale. (…) You are an invitation to humility for a President,” added Emmanuel Macron.
Muriel Robin, Claude Chirac and Dany Boon, Line Renaud’s “children in the heart” and many personalities such as Pascal Obispo, Nana Mouskouri, Claude Lelouch, Pierre Arditi, Nathalie Baye were present at this beautiful ceremony.
Visibly acting to give this French legend such privilege, President Macron even gained some familiarity by tenderly kissing Line Renaud’s forehead.
