PopRedemption It tells the story of the Dead Makabés, a metal band who disguises themselves as hippies to escape the police. It consists of four friends named Alex, Pascal, JP and Erik, played by Julien Doré, Jonathan Cohen, Grégory Gadebois and Yacine Belhousse respectively. If they learned from the beginning of the movie that they were going to act at Hellfest, this scene was not planned in the script. However, as described in an academic paper from Paul’s University, Alexandre Astier, who played the police commissioner, participated in the script and insisted that it be added to the end of the Martin Le Gall-directed feature film. .
Indeed, on the main stage of Hellfest during the 2012 edition of the Clisson festival in the Loire-Atlantique, four actors shot the scene of the Dead Makabés concert. Two nights of shooting were required. For the shoot where we saw the public, festival goers were asked to cheer on the cast with a look inspired by the cult group KISS. Julien Doré, Jonathan Cohen, Grégory Gadebois and Yacine Belhousse therefore walked the legendary stage just after the passage of Guns N’ Roses, whose show ended at two o’clock in the morning on Saturday, June 16. A very difficult task to tackle with a limited technical team and in collaboration with Hellfest management.
For technical reasons, other shots were filmed without a Hellfest audience. Thus, after the end of the festival and the stage had not yet been dismantled, the shots of the actors on the stage could be shot in much simpler conditions. This is where the shots of Alexandre Astier in the crowd were shot. These are the only shots where the audience we saw were not actual festival goers but extras hired by the production team. Note that members of the French metal band Zuul FX oversaw the script. Their leader, Steve Petit, also plays the festival’s manager. PopRedemption and became friends with Alexandre Astier during filming.
