Blair Tindall, the concert oboist whose memoirs were written in 2005 Mozart in the jungle was adapted into a popular comedy-drama series on Amazon Prime in 2014, and died of a heart ailment in Los Angeles on April 12. She was 63.
Her death was announced on Facebook by her fiance, Chris Sattlberger, and confirmed to Deadline by publicist Danny Deraney.
Tindall was oboist with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra of St. Luke’s, who turned her experiences in the classical music world into the best-selling and award-winning memoir. She is done Mozart in the jungle while on fellowship at MacDowell Colony.
The book was optioned by actor Jason Schwartzman, who developed the Amazon series with his cousin Roman Coppola, director Paul Weitz and Broadway director Alex Timbers. Starring Lola Kirke, Gael García Bernal (who won a Golden Globe Award for his performance), Bernadette Peters and Malcolm McDowell, the show ran for four seasons (2014–2018). The series won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series in 2016.
Tindall has also appeared on several film soundtracks including The Inkpot, Crooklyn And Malcolm X
Sattlberger wrote on Facebook that he and Tindall plan to marry in two weeks. Tindall was previously married to Bill Nye of the television series Bill Nye The Scientist.
