The manga is considered by many to be a masterpiece Pluto based on that of Tezuka Astro Boy “The Greatest Robot Alive” 1964 arc and produced by Naoki Urasawa (20th century boys, Jawara!, Master Keaton) and his old co-creator Takashi Nagasaki. Macoto Tezka guides in collaboration with Tezuka Productions.

The suspense drama takes place in a neo-futuristic world where humans and highly functional robots live together in perfect harmony. The world-renowned manga has won numerous awards, including the Tezuka Osamu Culture Prize. The 2015 stage adaptation Pluto returned by popular demand in 2018 and toured Japan and Europe.

“I applaud the courage of everyone who took on the challenge of creating an anime based on Pluto. I am happy to see the birth of this new series to win people’s hearts. I hope Osamu Tezuka’s message reaches the world now more than ever,” said author Naoki Urasawa.

Co-author Takashi Nagasaki added: “Pluto inherits the philosophy of Tezuka and conveys not only an anti-war message, but reminds us that there is suffering on both sides…but peace is the only answer left.”
