At least 13 migrants are missing off the coast of Tunisia after their boat capsized on a journey toward Italy, a Tunisian NGO head reported.
The vessel had set sail on Thursday carrying the passengers across the sea before overturning off the North African coastline.
Only two survivors have been recovered from the water so far. One survivor said he spent several hours floating in the sea after the vessel capsized, while the second survivor was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Search efforts were initiated following the capsizing, but the fate of the remaining passengers remains unknown. Local authorities and emergency services monitor the coastal waters where maritime accidents frequently occur along major crossing paths.

The sea migration route across the Central Mediterranean is recognized by international agencies as the most dangerous maritime migration path worldwide. Thousands of individuals attempt the crossing each year despite severe environmental and navigational hazards.
According to the International Organization for Migration, at least 872 people have died or been declared missing along the Central Mediterranean route so far this year.
