President Donald Trump accused Iran's leadership of duplicity, saying they deny holding talks with the United States even as negotiations proceed. He made the comments on his Truth Social account.
Trump wrote that Iran's leadership is incredibly two-faced, asking for a meeting, some would say begging, with talks underway and more planned in the near future, while publicly and proudly claiming no discussions are happening and that they only deal with Oman.
Strait of Hormuz and nuclear claims
Trump also said the Strait of Hormuz is fully under the control of the US Navy. He added that Iran will never have nuclear weapons.
Trump had earlier said the United States and Iran would move to talks on August 3. He also announced the cancellation of a planned major strike on Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei later said Iran is not holding any negotiations with the US, despite Trump's recent statements.
