The popular anime series One Piece will return to the big screen with two new theatrical releases, animation studio Toei Animation has confirmed.
The first film, titled God Valley, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas in 2027. It comes five years after the release of the franchise's previous cinematic outing, Red, which debuted in 2022. That film introduced the character of Uta and went on to become the highest grossing movie in the history of the franchise.
A second feature, BAAD, is slated for a 2029 release. Toei Animation, the Japanese company responsible for adapting Eiichiro Oda's manga into the long running television series, stated that the films will expand upon key events within the existing story of the Straw Hat Pirates.
The animation studio has produced over one thousand episodes of the weekly anime since it first began broadcasting in Japan in 1999. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat crew as they navigate dangerous oceans in search of a mythical treasure.
The studio noted that the 2027 film God Valley will build upon the narrative of the Elbaph arc. In the source material, Elbaph is a legendary island inhabited by a warrior race of giants.
The island has been referenced since the earliest days of the story, and reaching it has been a long stated goal for the main crew. The giants and their homeland draw heavy inspiration from Norse mythology.
The storyline for the upcoming movie focuses on the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and Marine Vice Admiral Garp. According to the studio, these two legendary figures are forced to form an unexpected alliance.
Roger is known in the series as the man who conquered the seas and sparked a global age of piracy with his dying words. Garp is celebrated as a hero of the Marines, the global military force that hunts pirates, and is also the grandfather of the series protagonist Luffy.

The studio stated that Roger and Garp must join forces to defeat a powerful adversary named Rocks D. Xebec. Within the lore of the series, Xebec was a notorious pirate captain who commanded a crew of the most dangerous outlaws in the world decades before the main story begins.
