Telecinco has delayed the schedule of its series 'Romi' again, moving new episodes to 00:20 on Monday, August 10, after the show's ratings continued to slide. The change comes just after Mediaset shifted the drama's broadcast from Sunday nights to Monday prime time.
The new episodes will now air once 'El Grand Prix del Verano' is wrapping up on La 1.
First Dates fills the gap
In place of 'Romi', Telecinco is extending 'First Dates', the dating show hosted by Carlos Sobera that the network regularly turns to when ratings falter. On Monday, August 10, the program will air an extra edition running from 21:50 to 00:20, putting it in direct competition with the grandfather-and-grandson show on the rival channel.
The move follows a week in which 'Romi' ranked last in prime time with a 5.4% audience share, according to the report, even trailing the 6.3% share of the premiere of 'Punto Nemo' on Cuatro. The figure also marked a slight drop from the series' debut, when its first episode reached 5.5% and its second reached 5.8%.
A troubled path to air
The ratings stumble is not the only setback 'Romi' has faced. The production had originally been set to premiere on May 28, but the Italian media group pulled it at the last minute and shelved it for a month without offering an official explanation.
The postponement was widely seen as an attempt to avoid a direct clash with the 2026 World Cup on La 1. In that same time slot, the broadcast of the South Africa versus Canada match drew a dominant 24.9% share and 2.6 million viewers on RTVE, a result that would have overshadowed the series' launch.
Announced by Mediaset six years ago, 'Romi' did not begin filming until 2023. After screening at the South International Series Festival in Cadiz and later premiering on Prime Video's catalog last autumn, the fiction series has taken nearly another year to find a stable place in Telecinco's lineup, where it has yet to settle.
Plot and cast
Across its eight 70-minute episodes, 'Romi' follows its title character as she uses her extraordinary abilities to solve a case in each installment, while a central storyline unfolds around the dark family secret behind the "accident" that killed her father and left her deaf.
The character, played by María Cerezuela, stands out for her sharp instincts and ability to connect clues, making her an exceptional detective, though her impulsive nature and tendency to break rules put her at odds with her mother, Alaia, the police chief of Bilbao.
Veteran actress Natalia Millán plays Alaia in what is one of the latest series she has starred in, while the cast also includes Unax Ugalde, Elena Irureta and Asier Etxeandia.
