The hit spy drama series Slow Horses, starring Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman, has been renewed for an eighth season by streaming service Apple TV+.
The early renewal was confirmed following the show's victory at the Emmy Awards for best directing in a drama series, according to a report by Variety. The announcement arrived as the sixth season debuted on September 16, 2026.
Production on the seventh season has already wrapped, with those episodes expected to screen following the conclusion of season six.
Upcoming seasons and book adaptation
The eighth season will consist of six episodes based on Clown Town, the ninth novel in author Mick Herron's Slough House book series. Herron's popular spy novels follow a dysfunctional team of British intelligence service agents banished to Slough House, an administrative dumping ground for MI5 officers who have made career-ending mistakes.
Gary Oldman, who earned an Emmy nomination for lead actor in a drama series for his portrayal, will return as Jackson Lamb, the grumpy yet charming head of the department. Oldman leads the ensemble cast as the unkempt chief of the exiled intelligence unit.
According to the official synopsis, the new episodes will see Lamb involved in his largest confrontation to date with Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas. After a failed attempt to blackmail the Park, Taverner goes on the offensive, leaving Lamb to expose one of MI5's darkest secrets and resolve the conflict permanently.

The series is produced for Apple TV+ by See-Saw Films, the UK production company behind several high-profile television dramas. Executive producers on the project include Gary Oldman, Mick Herron, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Douglas Urbanski, Adam Randall, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux, Billy Bowie, and Helen Gregory.
Jay Hunt, the creative director for international at Apple TV+, said that Slow Horses continues to captivate audiences worldwide. She added that she was delighted that Jackson Lamb and his team of charming misfits would return for an eighth season, highlighting their ironic perspective on the spy genre as entirely unique.
