Selena Gomez is nominated for her sixth Emmy at the Sept. 14, 2026, ceremony for her role in "Only Murders in the Building," but it is her three years of red carpet nights with husband Benny Blanco that have become an annual highlight of awards season.

Gomez, best known for "Wizards of Waverly Place" and her Rare Beauty cosmetics brand, plays Mabel Mora in "Only Murders in the Building" alongside co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin. Blanco, 38, is a music producer and songwriter behind hits including "Eastside."

Their First Emmys Together
Gomez and Blanco made their first appearance together at television's biggest night in September 2024, just months after Gomez confirmed their relationship. For the ceremony, she wore a halter-top Ralph Lauren gown with a sequined neckline and appeared to be sporting a marquise diamond ring on her left ring finger, which raised eyebrows online.

The ring was not an engagement ring. It was part of a Tiffany & Co. set Gomez, then 34, chose for the night, when she received her first nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Gomez and Blanco sat alongside her "Only Murders" co-stars Short and Martin during the ceremony, which was hosted by the father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy. Blanco kept his hand on Gomez's leg throughout the show.

The Engagement
Two months after that Emmys appearance, Blanco proposed. Gomez confirmed the engagement in a December 2024 Instagram post, writing, "Forever begins now." Blanco replied in the comments, "hey wait… that's my wife."

A Red Carpet Debut Before the Wedding
By the time the 2025 Emmys arrived, the couple was just days from their wedding, and they used the ceremony for their first joint red carpet appearance. Gomez wore an off-the-shoulder red Louis Vuitton gown, while Blanco wore an all-black suit. Photos from the night showed Blanco kissing Gomez's cheek.

"Only Murders in the Building" lost the Outstanding Comedy Series award that night to "The Studio." Gomez did not appear troubled by the loss, later sharing a photo on Instagram of herself by the pool at their Hollywood home, surrounded by candles Blanco had arranged as a surprise.

"Grateful for all these people forever and always," Gomez wrote in the post. "Came home to a surprise my baby put together."
The couple married in Santa Barbara, California, on Sept. 27, 2025, two weeks after that Emmys ceremony. Guests included Taylor Swift, Martin Short, Steve Martin and Paul Rudd.

How the Relationship Began
Gomez and Blanco started dating in July 2023, around the time of Gomez's birthday, Blanco said on "The Howard Stern Show" in May 2024. Dating rumors did not surface until late that year.

Gomez confirmed the relationship in December 2023, commenting on a fan account's Instagram post about Blanco, "He is my absolute everything in my heart." She continued, "Why has he been the best thing that's ever happened to me. He's still better than anyone I've ever been with." Around the same time, she shared a photo of herself wearing a bejeweled "B" ring and a picture of the pair kissing.

Gomez documented the relationship's early months on social media, including a New York City outing with friends in December 2023, a visit to an art exhibit two days after Christmas, and a Los Angeles Lakers game against the Miami Heat in January 2024.
In March 2024, Gomez marked Blanco's 36th birthday with an Instagram tribute. "Your emotional endurance, positive disposition, unbelievable talent (that blows me away), undeniable humor and loving, kind heart absolutely kill me," she wrote. "I love you @itsbennyblanco."
The following month, Gomez celebrated the release of Blanco's cookbook, "Open Wide," sharing photos of the pair with a cake shaped like the book and captioning them, "So proud."
Ahead of their first dating anniversary in July 2024, the couple took part in a viral "Who's Most Likely To" challenge on TikTok, revealing that Gomez was the first of the two to say "I love you." That same month, following Gomez's 32nd birthday, she shared a gallery of summer photos captioned, "Thank you for sharing your life with me today and everyday." Additional posts through the summer showed the couple lounging on a beach, sharing meals, going out in disguise with masks, and swapping affectionate hugs and kisses.
What Comes Next
The couple attended the 2025 Golden Globes together before their Emmys red carpet debut and wedding. Two months after the wedding, Gomez and Blanco marked their first Thanksgiving together as a married couple.
