Ibiza will host the annual Sant Agustí festival in Sant Josep de sa Talaia from August 21 to September 18, featuring nearly a month of activities.
Organised within the parish of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, the celebrations will combine local traditions with concerts, theatre, poetry, sports and nature activities across the late summer schedule.
Isabel Castellar, the councillor for festivities in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, said municipal organisers aimed to prepare a varied programme for all ages that pairs new activities with longstanding parish traditions.
Sant Josep de sa Talaia is a municipality located in the southwest of Ibiza, an island in Spain's Balearic archipelago. The parish of Sant Agustí des Vedrà regularly hosts local cultural gatherings that preserve traditional Ibizan customs.
Main events for Saint Augustine feast day
Although activities begin on Friday, August 21, the main events of the festival center around Friday, August 28, which marks the official feast day of Saint Augustine.
Festivities for the big day begin on Thursday, August 27, with a mass at Santa Mònica followed by theatre performances and live music.
On Friday, August 28, the schedule includes a sung mass, a solemn procession, and a performance of ball pagès, the traditional Ibizan folk dance, presented by the Grup Folklòric Sa Colla des Vedrà.
Pep Ribas, Hereva, will deliver the festival proclamation before live concert performances by Arredefolk, the Balkan Paradise Orchestra, and The Groggy Dogs.
Celebrations continue on Saturday, August 29, with the second edition of the Gran Gimcana Jove Missió Cuc de Garrova youth gymkhana and a second evening of live music concerts.
Traditional gatherings and community events
The traditional Festa Pagesa will take place on Sunday, August 30, at pou des Rafals, one of the historical parish well sites that serves as a traditional meeting point for residents.
The schedule for September includes the Festa de sa Xíndria on Friday, September 4, followed by a dedicated day of tribute to elderly residents on Thursday, September 10.
Cultural programming continues on Saturday, September 12, with the annual Nit de Poesia poetry evening.
Vicent Roig Tur, the mayor of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, highlighted the strong involvement of local residents and neighborhood associations in organizing the month-long program.
Roig Tur said the festival provides an opportunity for community members to reunite in the town square to share laughter, music, traditional dancing and human warmth.
Stargazing night closes festivities
The festival program will officially conclude on Friday, September 18, with an event titled Estrelles i Senalló.
The final evening will replace live music and street celebrations with a quiet night dedicated to observing the Moon and stars, bringing almost a month of festivities in Sant Agustí to a close.
