Samsung will limit major software updates for its Galaxy S23 lineup to Android 17, according to details from a shared customer support screenshot.
The update plan applies to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Galaxy S23 FE. Information about the software lifecycle surfaced after a user shared a screenshot of a conversation with a Samsung representative regarding support for the Galaxy S23 FE model.
All four devices launched with Android 13-based One UI 5.1 under Samsung's promise of four major Android operating system upgrades and five years of security updates. The smartphones received updates for Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16, making Android 17 their fourth and final major operating system upgrade.
Update Availability
Distribution of the stable Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update for the Galaxy S23 series will take time. Samsung has not yet started releasing stable updates broadly beyond its latest foldable phones.
