A Russian man named Vlad walked out mid-date after an American woman named Jennifer began asking him detailed personal questions, leaving him feeling as though he were at a job interview.
Vlad shared his story with Elena, author of the travel blog “Like Travel Puteshestviya,” which published it on the Dzen platform. The evening started badly when Jennifer did not respond well to a compliment he gave her. When Vlad asked about her plans for marriage and children, she said she intended to focus on her career until at least age 35.
Jennifer then questioned him about his education, work history, previous relationships and the reasons his last one ended. Vlad said it felt like being checked against a list of requirements. He excused himself, called a taxi and left.
Vlad said he was accustomed to men taking the lead on dates in Russia and found the reversal jarring. Elena said the episode showed how differently cultures interpret compliments, personal boundaries and acceptable first-date topics.
