Russian bicycle traveler Denis Chernoval has been found safe and sound in Tajikistan following a large-scale search operation, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported. The 30-year-old resident of Saratov lost contact after crossing into the country from China on August 3.
Chernoval could not contact his family because he lacked internet access during his travels. He actively updated a blog throughout his journey before the posts suddenly stopped, prompting his relatives to alert the border service. A short message stating that he was alive was published on his blog on the afternoon of August 11.
Search and journey details
Chernoval previously worked at a customer support center for a mobile operator before quitting his job to set out on a long trip on June 19. He departed Saratov for Kazakhstan, reached Kyrgyzstan by June 28, and crossed the Chinese border on July 27 before entering Tajikistan on August 3.
The cyclist is currently in the village of Rushan, located near Tajikistan's border with Afghanistan. He plans to travel into Afghanistan next.
Other Russian expeditions
In a separate travel achievement, Russian explorer Yuri Skorobogatov recently completed a 2,500-kilometer expedition along the Amur River on a stand-up paddleboard. Skorobogatov undertook the journey to trace the historic routes of Cossack pioneers.
