A Russian travel blogger named Elena, who spent several months living in Phuket, Thailand, said that Russian speakers are treated warmly on the island. She shared her observations on her personal blog, "Like Travel Puteshestviya," on the Zen platform.
Elena said it is possible to live comfortably in Phuket on 75,000 rubles a month. She said locals treat visitors well, and that living outside the main tourist areas made the welcome even warmer, since residents there have no interest in selling something or making money off tourists. She said people always smile, greet visitors, strike up conversations and help out when needed.
Housing and living costs
Elena said she would like to grow old in Thailand, calling it a place where life is both affordable and cheap. She said a small apartment with a pool and amenities costs newcomers around 15,000 baht, or roughly 38,000 rubles, a month. Housing with a sea view runs from 25,000 to 30,000 baht, or about 63,000 to 76,000 rubles, a month. She added that around 15,000 baht, or about 38,000 rubles, a month is enough to cover groceries.
Food prices in Phuket
Elena said eating in Phuket works out cheaper than at home in Russia. She said mangoes, pineapples, passion fruit, papaya and bananas are all very inexpensive there, citing two large mangoes at around 30 baht, or about 80 rubles, and a kilogram of bananas at about 80 rubles. She said chicken in Phuket is tasty and free of chemicals and additives, and also cheaper than in Russia, with chicken breast fillet averaging 100 baht per kilogram, or about 270 rubles.
Elena's other travels
Elena had previously visited Italy, where she wrote about the style secrets of local women. She said Italian women often wear glasses of different shapes as an accessory to complete their look.
