Russian travel blogger Elena Liseyкina has shared her observations on unusual apartment features she encountered across several countries, posting her findings on her blog “Travels with a Camera” on the Zen platform.
In the United States, she was struck by thin drywall construction. She said the first thing that gives an American apartment away is sound: knock on the wall and it echoes hollow, because it is not concrete but plasterboard on a frame.
In Finland, she was surprised to find drying cabinets installed directly in entrance hallways so residents can hang wet winter clothing there. She noted they are especially handy after outdoor activities in the snow.
In Spain, Liseyкina observed that tile floors are common even in bedrooms, with no carpet or parquet. She said the logic becomes clear after a few hot days, as cool bare floors are pleasant to walk on.
Other surprises included separate hot and cold taps in the UK, floor-to-ceiling windows without curtains in the Netherlands, wall niches in place of wardrobes in Uzbekistan, and a reinforced room with a steel door and metal window shutter in Israel.
