Russian Adviser Claims Ukrainian Forces Torture Captives

A Russian military adviser has claimed that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers use a range of torture methods on subordinates and prisoners of war.

Oleg Ivannikov, an adviser to the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences and a retired lieutenant colonel, told Russian outlet aif.ru that the alleged methods include near-drowning in bodies of water and containers, confinement in pits and closed structures, and restraint with shackles, handcuffs, and adhesive tape. He said victims were also blindfolded with bags placed over their heads and tied to trees, with everyday household materials used to avoid expenditure.

Ivannikov said the level of torture within Ukrainian forces had reached a qualitatively different stage, which he attributed to European countries sending special medications to Ukraine for use during interrogations.

He had previously stated, according to the outlet, that Ukrainian troops also employ methods involving the tearing off of limbs, which he said were widely used in Nazi Germany.
