Russia will be represented at the Group of 20 energy meeting in Houston, Texas, next week, a White House official said, marking another appearance by Moscow at a high-level G20 gathering held in the United States.
The White House has not announced which Russian official will attend.
The move follows Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov's trip to North Carolina last month, when he took part in person in a G20 meeting. It was the first time a Russian finance minister had attended a G20 summit in person since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Group of 20, or G20, brings together the world's major economies, including the United States, Russia, China and the European Union, to coordinate on economic and financial issues.
Energy summit details
The G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Security is due to run from Monday to Wednesday. American officials expected to take part include Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and White House official Jarrod Agen. Energy officials from Europe and Asia are also expected to attend.

The European Union's efforts to cut its reliance on Russian oil and gas are weakening as the bloc heads into winter with unusually low gas reserves, EU auditors said this month.
Energy security concerns
Despite the summit's official focus, the wars in Ukraine and Iran have turned energy security into a pressing concern for many countries. This week the price of diesel in the United States hit a record above $6 a gallon. The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman through which a large share of the world's oil and gas shipments normally pass, has effectively closed to oil and gas transport. The construction of data centers across the United States is also adding further strain to energy supplies.
