Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has altered its afternoon television schedule for period drama La Promesa following coverage of Wednesday's total solar eclipse.
The network replaced its regular programming on Wednesday afternoon with a special edition of Aqui la tierra to broadcast the astronomical event live from 6:30 p.m. As a result of the grid change, La 1 will air two special compilation episodes on Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15, while pausing the show's main storylines until next week.
Until Wednesday, the public broadcaster had only shared episode previews for Monday, August 10 and Tuesday, August 11. The lack of information created uncertainty among viewers regarding how the network would handle the remaining days of the week once regular programming resumed.
When RTVE finally released the previews for August 14 and August 15, it revealed a different strategy from fellow daily drama Valle Salvaje. While Valle Salvaje has new episodes scheduled for the second half of the week, La Promesa will instead focus on retrospective recap broadcasts.
Thursday love triangle special
The special episode scheduled for Thursday, August 14 will focus on the central love triangle between Manuel, played by Arturo Garcia Sancho, his cousin Ciro, played by Juan Perales, and Julieta, played by Vera Asuncion.

The installment will examine Manuel's emotional revival following the death of Jana. Conflict escalates when Manuel starts to develop feelings for Julieta, only to discover that she is married to his despotic and ambitious cousin.
The episode will also highlight Ciro's attempts to exert control over Manuel's aviation business while maintaining his marriage to Julieta.
Friday palace revelations special
The broadcast on Friday, August 15 will center on characters Curro, played by Xavi Lock, Angela, played by Marta Acosta, and Leocadia, played by Isabel Serrano.
The plot will revisit the disruption caused at the palace by the arrival of Maximo, the Duke of Buenaventura, played by Javier Lago.
While Curro remains open to a diplomatic proposal from the duke to relocate to Lisbon, tension builds for Angela. Her conflict with Maximo reaches a turning point when it is revealed that the duke is actually her father.
La Promesa is a popular daily period television drama produced by Bambu Producciones for RTVE. It airs weekday afternoons on La 1, the main television channel operated by the Spanish public broadcaster.
